Tencel : extremely popular at the moment. Also called 'the Beyonce of fabrics' and at Bohelie 'the Jimi Hendrix'!
Tencel is the brand name of the fiber lyocell. The fabric is made from wood, in most cases from Eucalyptus trees. The fabric is stiff when wet, but becomes soft, comfortable, strong and supple when it dries.
At Bohelie they blend this fabric with polyester, which is naturally wrinkle resistant and makes the fabric even stronger! Hence the slogan "Let the free-spirits dance more and iron less"
The fabric has a 27 cm border on both sides of the selvedge, which gives it many more possibilities to let your creativity run wild! Don't let this collar scare you, this is really much easier than you think. Put your pattern pieces on it and it will show itself. Even a beginner can get started with this and create the most beautiful bohemian looks in the blink of an eye!
Sustainability:
Nearly 70 million trees are cut down annually to make wood-based fibers. Almost a third of this comes from endangered tree species. Tencel is made from the wood pulp of Eucalyptus trees, which have a much more sustainable life. Compared to cotton, for example, these trees require much less fertilizers and pesticides to grow. Top! In addition, Eucalyptus trees use 80% less water than cotton. The trees do not need an irrigation system and water is recycled: a so-called 'closed loop system'. Wow! This system ensures that chemicals are collected and reused, instead of ending up in the environment. To top it off, Tencel is produced chlorine-free, making it completely biodegradable. Wherever it ends up, nature can break it down again. sweet!
